I just splashed out on a HDTV so didn't want to buy an expensive Blu-ray player just yet, therefore I decided to get this player as a stop-gap. I'm very glad I did as the quality is excellent! I'm not sure how it compares to a Blu-ray, but it is certainly far better than my old standard DVD player.... more info
